Hazardous Waste Program

The Hazardous Waste Program (HWP) regulates the generation, treatment, recycling, storage, transportation and disposal of hazardous waste and used oil to ensure that hazardous waste management activities in North Dakota are conducted in compliance with North Dakota's Hazardous Waste Management Rules. North Dakota is an authorized state, which means the HWP implements the requirements of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) in place of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Other activities conducted by the HWP include oversight of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB's) and Brownfields.
