The Red River Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council and the Red River Regional Council (RRRC) sponsor the overall watershed project in response to reports of degraded water quality and aquatic habitat in the Red River Watershed.

The Red River Basin Riparian Project (RRBRP) was established in 1993 to address nonpoint source pollution from agricultural practices and urban landuse activities adjacent to the tributaries and main stem of the Red River of the North. The goals of this project will focus on:

  • Influencing land management choices in the Red River Basin that will improve forest condition, protect water resources, and improve water quality,
  • Restoring riparian corridors on continuous reaches of rivers and streams within the basin using established and revised best management practices, and
  • Protection of existing and restored riparian zones from destructive activities.
The Red River Basin Riparian Project is a watershed project sponsored by the Red River Regional Council and the Lake Agassiz Resource Conservation and Development Council. The focus is restoration, protection, and management of the riparian areas in eastern North Dakota.
