Accomplishments


  Phase I (1992 – 1997) – Education and Demonstration
  1. Developed a RAC and engaged natural resource management agencies

  2. Completed four Riparian BMP Demonstrations

  3. Held four educational workshops on riparian management

  4. Created a variety of educational materials

  Phase II (1998 – 2003) – Capacity Building and Implementation
  1. Established staff to provide technical assistance

  2. Completed eight riparian BMP demonstration sites

  3. Wrote 341 management plans representing over 28,000 riparian zone acres

  4. Restored 74 miles of riparian zone using 20 different types of BMPs

  5. Hosted four basinwide training workshops

  Phase III (2003 – 2008) – Implementation and Technology Transfer
  1. 13 miles of restored riparian zone

  2. 66 riparian forest management plans for 6286 acres

  3. Provided over $332,000 in cost-share to assist over 50 landowners and communities

  4. Spent $598,742 from 319 funds (46% of grant)

  5. Assisted over 50 producers (not including technical assistance and FRM Plans)

  6. Local cost-share contributions of $136,000 ($92,000 is from sources other than land owners)

  7. Helped to provide over $80,000 from other Federal Programs

  8. Provided technical assistance to programs in Barnes and Mercer Counties

  Phase IV (2008 – 2014) – Implementation of Best Management Practices
  1. Raise funding from other local sources

  2. Hold tours and educational events

  3. Secure engineering services

  4. Research studies to assess riparian areas and their hydrology, complete ecological site descriptions, and riparian grazing and range assistance

  5. Provide technical assistance to landowners/operators

  6. Implement practices including tree plantings, bank stabilizations using bioengineering practices, grazing management plans, forest management plans, and forest stand improvements/regeneration.
