Cancer is a diverse group of diseases characterized by the proliferation of abnormal cells.  These cells can invade and destroy surrounding tissue and spread (metastasis) to distant parts of the body.  While some cancers share common causes, or risk factors, it is believed that most cancers have a unique set of factors that are responsible for their initiation.
