Breastfeeding initiation rates by birth hospital (for hospitals reporting 50 or more annual births) – This data shows the number of North Dakota mothers who initiated breastfeeding. It provides percentages of initiation for both exclusive breastfeeding and those that supplemented with formula. This data is collected by the newborn screening program (which identifies infants at risk) at 24 hours of age.

Breastfeeding initiation rates by birth hospital – This data is gathered from the birth certificate in response to the question, “Was infant breastfed at time of discharge?"
