Breastfeeding Initiation by Hospitals -- Newborn Screening Data
Breastfeeding initiation rates by birth hospital (for hospitals reporting 50 or more annual births) – This data shows the number of North Dakota mothers who initiated breastfeeding. It provides percentages of initiation for both exclusive breastfeeding and those that supplemented with formula. This data is collected by the newborn screening program (which identifies infants at risk) at greater than 24 hours of age.
Breastfeeding Initiation Rates by All N.D. Hospitals -- Birth Certificate Data
Breastfeeding initiation rates by birth hospital – This data is gathered from the birth certificate in response to the question, “Was infant breastfed at time of discharge?"
Breastfeeding Initiation Rates by County -- Birth Certificate Data
Breastfeeding initiation percentage by county of residence – This data is gathered from the birth certificate in response to the question, “Was infant breastfed at time of discharge?" and is analyzed by the mother's county of residence.
Maternity Care Practices Survey
Maternity Care Practices Survey – This data is collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They conducted a survey of all labor and delivery service facilities in the United States in an effort to monitor maternity care practices associated with successful breastfeeding promotion and support. This data is collected every other year, starting in 2007.
Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance System
Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance System (PedNSS) and Pregnancy Nutrition Surveillance System (PNSS) – breastfeeding initiation and duration rates for North Dakota women and infants who participate in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC).
