Bird Information Dead bird surveillance has been an indicator of transmission of West Nile virus and can play a role in predicting human risk of infection. The North Dakota dead bird surveillance for West Nile virus will involve (a) collecting reports of dead bird sightings and (b) testing dead birds for West Nile virus.
