Public Health Preparedness
The Division of Public Health Preparedness provides local and state public health guidance, planning, coordination, response and funding for large scale emergencies. These activities include coordination and funding of incident command and control, disease control, laboratory services, communications systems, public information, medical supplies, equipment and pharmaceuticals and training. Funding for this division is provided by a cooperative agreement through the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control.

Programs:
SNS (Strategic National Stockpile) contains medical cache for public health emergencies.
It is comprised of two components:
- 12 Hour Push Package
- Managed Inventory
Depending on the public health emergency, SNS assets, when requested by the State, can arrive within 6-12 hours of the federal decision to deploy.

Requesting a HAN (Health Alert Network Message)
The process for requesting a HAN message for your facility is the same for both exercises and real events.
- Click on the link NDHAN Alert Request to fill out the request form. Click Submit in the upper right hand corner of the form.
- Call State Radio Toll Free at: 800.472.2121 and request that a Case Manager for the ND Dept. of Health be paged.
- The Case Manager will return your call, Inform them that you are requesting a HAN alert, Please specify whether this is an exercise or real event.
- Inform them that the HAN Message Request form has been submitted.
