North Dakota Rescue Services
Voluntary Certification Program
Rescue Services are organizations that extricate patients from entrapment. The
most common form of extrication in North Dakota is the removal of injured
persons from automobile crashes. Most rescue services are located in fire
departments. There are no licensure laws pertaining to rescue services. The
State Health Department established the Voluntary Certification Program in
response to requests from providers to establish standards.
The program is organized into Light and Heavy certifications. The primary
difference between the two categories is the required minimum equipment.
