Abstinence Education Program

The Abstinence Education Program contracts with agencies that deliver abstinence education, mentoring, counseling and adult supervision to promote abstinence from sexual activity. The goal is to reduce teen pregnancies and to reduce the physical and psychological health risks that accompany early sexual activity.

The program was initiated in 1996, targeting youth ages 10 through 29. Strategies include peer-to-peer education, in-school education, parent education and community forums. Annual funding comes primarily from the Title V Section 510 Abstinence Education Program.

What is the Title V Section 510 Abstinence Education Program?
