Introduction

Through an agreement with the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors and in association with the Texas Bureau of Radiation Control, the North Dakota Department of Health is authorized to administer an approved industrial radiographer safety/certification exam. These examinations must be successfully completed at least every five (5) years to maintain certification.

Requirements

The North Dakota Radiological Health Rules require all persons acting as industrial radiographers in North Dakota to meet certain training and experience requirements as well as successful completion of a certification examination administered by an approved certifying entity as mentioned above.

In addition to an industrial radiographer safety examination, certain other criteria must be met before a North Dakota Industrial Radiographer identification card can be issued to any individual. These additional requirements include:

  1. Documentation of radiographer trainee training requirements in subdivision a of subsection 33-10-05-05.1 of the North Dakota Radiological Health Rules.
  2. Documentation of radiographer on-the-job training and demonstration of competence requirements in paragraphs (2), (3), and (4) of subdivision b of subsection 33-10-05-05.1 of the North Dakota Radiological Health Rules.

Note that the second requirement above does not apply to individuals designated as radiographers prior to March 1, 1992.

Schedule & Applications

The North Dakota Radiation Control Program offers the exam once per year, usually in the spring. However, special requests for additional examination dates may be made to the Department and will be considered on a case-by-case basis (not all requests will be granted). A request for examination must be made to the Department at least 90 days prior to the examination date.

If you wish to add your name to our Industrial Radiographer mailing list, please forward your name, address and phone number to the address below. Individuals on this mailing list will be notified at least 60 days prior to the established examination date.
